APS Case Closure Reasons

Allegations Occurred in Another State – The reported allegations did not occur in Oklahoma.

Alleged Victim is not a Vulnerable Adult – The AV does not meet the APS definition of a vulnerable adult.

Assigned in Error, Allegations Being Investigated on Another Case – The allegations are being investigated in another report.  

Client does not meet APS criteria – The client does not meet criteria for APS involvement.  

Death – The vulnerable adult is deceased.

Information & Referral – The referral is referred to an appropriate responder because it does not contain an alleged vulnerable adult and at least one allegation of maltreatment, or a more appropriate responder is better suited to meet the client’s needs and provide services.

Merged with another report – The referral is merged with an open referral that is less than or equal to 45 days old, or it is merged with an open referral that is older than 45 days that has documentation within the past 10 days.  

Moved Out of State – The vulnerable adult moved out of state prior to initial visit or while referral was in Closed Follow-Up when no other closure reason applies.

New Referral Received and Assigned – A newer APS referral has been received and assigned; therefore, the older referral is eligible to be closed based on this closure reason. 

Other reason not listed above – Case closed due to another reason not listed.

Receiving intervention from another agency/resource – Another agency/resource is providing services to the vulnerable adult.

Referred to CHESS – needs to be deleted

Responsibility for Investigation or Service Case taken over by Law Enforcement – Law enforcement is taking over the investigation or service case due to criminal activity.  

Responsibility for Investigation or Service Case taken over by ODMHSAS – ODMHSAS is taking over the investigation or service case due to the AP being an employee at an ODMHSAS facility.

Responsibility for Investigation or Service case taken over by Tribal Nation – The tribal nation is taking over the investigation or service case due to having jurisdiction.

Responsibility for Investigation or Service Case taken over by other Agency – Another agency is taking over the investigation or service case.  For example, the referral is forwarded to the facility’s regulatory department and to the District Attorney when the AP is an employee of a jail or prison. 

Responsibility for investigation taken over by OCA – OCA is taking over the investigation due to having jurisdiction.

Responsibility for investigation taken over by OSDH – OSDH is taking over the investigation due to having jurisdiction. 

Situation Remedied, Circumstances are stable – The situation is stable and/or services are in place to address the AV’s needs.

Substantiated or Services Needed; Follow-up Needed – Follow-up is needed after determining an investigation was substantiated or services were needed for a service case.  The case is placed in Closed – Follow-Up.  

Unable to Locate – The APS specialist was unable to locate the vulnerable adult.

Unsubstantiated or No Services Needed – An investigation was unsubstantiated or no services were needed for a service case. 

Vulnerable Adult Does Not Consent to the Provision of Needed Services and Lacks Capacity, but Does Not Meet Criteria for Involuntary Services – The vulnerable adult is determined not to have capacity to consent and is refusing services; however, they do not meet criteria for involuntary services.  

Vulnerable Adult Does Not Consent to the Provision of Needed Services and Retains Capacity – The vulnerable adult is determined to have capacity to consent and is refusing services.
