APS specialist’s have authority to address and make decisions on behalf of the client depending on the type of order. If your order is person only then you only have authority to address issues related the person such as placement, Medical care, etc. If your order is estate only, then you only have authority to address related financial issues. If your order is person and estate, then you have the authority to address both.
- The specialist should staff all decisions with their supervisor prior to making any decisions or giving consents for treatment and this is documented in guardianship notes in AVA.
- Consent for some medical treatment may require a court order. Always notify your ADA or OKDHS legal and client’s counsel of any medical issues.
- Policy detailing the above is in AVA under 340:5-5-6
